Pandanacea species – Philippines


There are 45 species of Freycinetia and 48 species of Pandanus in the Philippines, many of them are endemic. They grow in various habitats from sandy beaches, mangrove swamps to primary forests. Many of these pandans are ornamental but only a few species are cultivated in the country.

Freycinetia genus is named in honor of Admiral Charles Louis de Freycinet, a French navigator.
